2nd Annual SVGTO Lancaster Co. Covered Bridge Tour

The Susquehanna Valley GTO Tigers 2nd Annual Lancaster Co. Covered Bridge TourSaturday, May 17th, 2008

The time has come to celebrate the official kick off of summer. The SVGTO Tigers will make our presence know over the highways and byways of Lancaster County. The covered bridge tour covers some of the most beautiful countryside in the heart of Amish country. The cruise will be divided into two parts. Anyone participating in the cruise can elect to cruise the first leg, or the second leg, or both. The first leg will wind through the rolling hills of the Pequea Creek Valley, from Ronks, Pa, to Pequea. This potion of the cruise will last approximately 1-½ hours, passing through 5 historic Lancaster County covered bridges. The route consists of mainly lightly traveled country roads, winding through rolling hills and expansive farms. The route has some very exciting roads, with plenty of 90 degree, sweeping turns to challenge even the most seasoned Goat pilots! Turn by turn directions will be provided to each driver at the starting point, Ashton’s Bagel Café, RT30 East at Ronks Road. From the end point of the first leg, we will cruise River Road, from Pequea to Columbia.Chickies Rock Park will be the starting point for the second leg of the cruise. The park is located on the left, at the top of the hill, Pa Route 441 North, from US Route 30.Cruisers, who don’t wish to drive the first leg, can meet up with the group at Chickies Rock Park. The second leg of the cruise will begin around 2:30. The second leg winds through the picturesque Chickies Creek Valley, in northwestern Lancaster County. This portion of the cruise will last about 45 minutes, and cross 4 historic covered bridges. There would have been five, but when Doug and I did a dry run, one bridge was no longer there, a victim of Mother Nature’s fury. The cruise will terminate with a cruise to Sonic Drive In, in Brownstown. There, we will gather for some good food and GTO camaraderie. This cruise is a repeat of the wonderful time we had in 2007. If you miss the chance last year, it’s time for a redo! This cruise should make for a wonderful day. We hope to see everyone there!
